Introducing a Gas Tax

Just a few days remain in the 2023 Legislative Session and the Transportation bill is one that remains incomplete but in progress.

Yesterday, an increase in the gas tax was introduced into the mix. Additionally, the House and Senate are working to reconcile differences between the proposed delivery fee for DoorDash, Amazon, and other food delivery services as well as regional sales tax increases to put towards Metro Transit.

House Transportation Chair Hornstein acknowledged this week that even with the new taxes, the funding bill will likely not be able to meet the current needs projected for road maintenance through 2042.

The Transportation Conference Committee (made up of Senators Dibble, Morrison, Carlson, McEwen, and Jasinksi and Representatives Hornstein, Koegel, Tabke, Brand, and Petersburg) has not met in a week, but will likely be meeting over the weekend to finish their work ahead of Monday’s adjournment.

We will provide an update once session is complete on how things ended for the transportation world.
