Transportation Funding at the Capitol

The Minnesota legislature is nearing the end of the 2023 session, and with that comes a flurry of activity. Included is the final passage of large funding packages like the Transportation Omnibus bill.

This week we saw some movement, with the Senate moving to re-refer the bill to the Taxes Committee and the House giving the Omnibus Transportation Bill it’s Second Reading. The Minnesota House is expected to bring the bill up for a final vote next week.

This massive spending bill includes billions of dollars of new revenue – the largest increase in transportation funding since the gas tax was introduced in 2008. Without which, Chair Frank Hornstein says we could expect “10% of our roads will be in poor condition” by 2030.
