The St. Michael City Administrator who also chairs the I-94 Corridor Coalition is optimistic that the lane expansion of Interstate 94 between Hwy. 241 in St. Michael and County Rd. 19 in Albertville will score well for state funding.
Steve Bot said the project’s design phase was already funded through the state’s Corridors for Commerce, the same program which will now decide the fate for the project’s construction.
“We applied (this project) for the Corridors,” Bot said. “There will be $200 million available for the next four years. We’re looking at $50 million to reconstruct the Hwy. 241 interchange and expand six lanes to County Rd. 37.”
The project would also construct an eastbound collector-distributor road system at I-94 from County Rd. 19 to County Rd. 37, essentially the same system that is currently in place on westbound I-94. This would allow full interchange movement of I-94 at County Rd. 19.
