Transportation Leaders and Elected Officials Speak at Coalition Groundbreaking Ceremony

Transportation leaders and elected officials gathered at the Albertville Premium Outlets on Friday, October 12 to celebrate receiving $56 million from the Corridors of Commerce Program to complete the lane capacity expansion from St. Michael to Albertville.

MnDOT Commissioner Charles Zelle had exciting news that he shared at the event! He announced that the temporary third lane of I-94 between Monticello and Clearwater will be made permanent when the highway is resurfaced in 2020.

Alongside Commissioner Zelle, Senator Amy Klobuchar, Representative Tom Emmer, Minnesota House Transportation Finance Chair Paul Torkelson, Senator Mary Kiffmeyer, and Representative Eric Lucero spoke at the ceremony about their excitement for the lane capacity expansion project and support of the coalition.

Other elected officials who celebrated with us include Senator Bruce Anderson, Senator Warren Limmer, Representative Marion O’Neill, Senator Jerry Relph, Representative Dennis Smith, and Representative Tama Theis.

Senator Relph’s Statement on Permanent I-94 Expansion

At the groundbreaking ceremony for the I-94 expansion in Albertville this morning, Minnesota Department of Transportation Commissioner Charlie Zelle announced that the temporary third lane of I-94 between Monticello and Clearwater will be made permanent when they do the resurfacing of the highway in that area. State Senator Jerry Relph (R-St. Cloud) issued the following statement.

“I could not be happier with Commissioner Zelle’s announcement. This is a smart, effective use of resources by the department. Everyone who lives of travels up this way knows what a mess I-94 is; adding a permanent third lane will make for happier travelers.”
